The Province of Alberta in Canada has taken a strong stand to encourage the use of non-medical face masks. The province received an order of 20 million masks in early June which are being distributed free of charge to anyone interested through approximately 600 drive-thrus at A&W, McDonald’s and Tim Hortons across the province. The masks are only available using the drive-thrus for distribution to ensure physical distancing can be maintained.
The government is encouraging all Albertans to obtain their own supply of non-medical masks. This program is intended to raise awareness of the importance of using face masks and to assist individuals who can’t afford to purchase them.
I applaud this effort and encourage businesses and government agencies to step up their efforts to support the ongoing use of face masks to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
